«ROMME»  Duo-utstilling, Giske Sigmundstad og Randi Annie Strand
Gjennom dialog mellom to utøvere ønsker vi å vises grafikkens særegne muligheter. Giske Sigmundstad og Randi Annie Strand jobber i to ulike grafiske teknikker. Sigmundstad i et figurativt, fortellende uttrykk i dyptrykk/etsninger, Strand i et abstrakt uttrykk i høytrykk/kunstnerbøker der materialkvalitetene er essensielle. Det mer litterære er altså å finne i bildene, det abstrakte i bokform. Felles er en klar fargeholdning, lys, et poetisk og lavmælt uttrykk og en intimitet i motiver og formater. Utstillingen vil vise bilder, bøker og bokfilmer.

Codex Polaris er svært takknemlig for at Kristiansand Kunsthall og Kristiansand folkebibliotek har gitt oss mulighet til virkelig å vise hva boka som kunstverk kan være. 26 kunstnere/grupper fra hele Norden har bidratt med flotte verk slik at dette har blitt en spennende og storslagen utstilling. A group of Norwegian and Scottish visual artists met on the Isle of Mull in 2018, and in Bergen / Gulen in 2019 to collaborate and make a joint exhibition. CODEX 2019 Book Fair and Symposium

CODEX POLARIS is  a curatorial group promoting Norwegian book arts and artist's books. Since 2016 Codex Polaris has also worked on collaborative projects between the Nordic countries, with the intention of developing networks for artists, printmakers and writers working with the book format. CODEX POLARIS is organised by Rita Marhaug, Randi Annie Strand, Sarah Jost and Imi Maufe. With an invitation from the Codex Foundation to participate at the CODEX book fair and seminar in 2019, Codex Polaris organised a nordic focus called CodexNordica at this event. CODEX is a four day book fair is held every two years in the San Francisco, USA and is the largest book fair in the world for 'handmade book as a work of art'. Over 200 stands show work from over 20 countries, work of the highest quality hand-made and mainly handprinted books.

ART CRITICS AWARD – TRØNDELAGSUTSTILLINGEN 2017

Art critic Marit K. Flåtter's reasons for the award:
Recipient of this year's critics award has delivered a work consisting of several techniques and expressions. Arabesk (film) by Randi Annie Strand is both a silent video work and books without words. The work is an intellectual play and at the same time a formal achievement.

Arabesk is thus without a verbal language, but perhaps therefore, communicates in all languages. The simple but very elaborate work, based on an intricate interaction between infinite variations of geometric shapes, also captures the title from here; "Arabesk" is, as some may know, the name of a kind of ornament used in many cultures, but is especially known from Islamic art, where the depiction of persons and other living beings was forbidden.

In addition to the above attributes, this work is associated with expression and image culture: what can be expressed, what is allowed to be produced or signaled. And how to communicate. The silent and non-verbal Arabesque's formal qualities are also in the way that this over a thousand years old method is reused and renewed. Randi Annie Strand has done a rare work that requires complex skills in the arts.

KRITIKERPRISEN, TRØNDELAGSUTSTILLINGEN 2017

Kunstkritiker Marit K. Flåtter's begrunnelse for tildelingen:
"Mottaker av årets kritikerpris har levert et verk som består av flere teknikker og uttrykk. Arabesk (film) av Randi Annie Strand er både et lydløst videoarbeid og bøker uten ord. Verket er en intellektuell lek og samtidig en formmessig prestasjon.

Arabesk er altså uten et verbalt språk, men kommuniserer likevel, eller kanskje derfor på alle språk. Det enkle, men svært forseggjorte arbeidet, basert på et innfløkt samspill mellom uendelige variasjoner av geometriske former, henter også tittel herfra; “Arabesk” er, som kanskje noen vet, benevnelsen på en type ornamentikk brukt i mange kulturer, men som særlig er kjent fra islamsk kunst, hvor avbildningen av personer og andre levende vesener var forbudt.

I tillegg til de overnevnte egenskapene knyttes derfor dette verket assosiativt til ytrings- og bildekultur: Hva man kan uttrykke, hva man får lov til å framstille, eller signalisere. Og hvordan man kommuniserer. Det lydløse og nonverbale Arabesk sine formale kvaliteter ligger også i måten denne over tusen år gamle metoden gjenbrukes og fornyes. Randi Annie Strand har laget et sjeldent godt arbeid som krever sammensatte ferdigheter innenfor kunstfaget."
